The City of Hayward features over 200 public art installations and murals through an award-winning mural program. Since 2009, walls, highways, and electrical boxes have become canvases adorned with public art with varying themes and messages. Join us on a walking tour where we will visit some of Downtown Hayward’s most prominent murals and learn more about the public art that surrounds us.
$15 per person, Free for HAHS Members. Recommended for ages 14+
The Hayward Area Recreation and Park District is hosting an Ag Day at Meek Estate Park. There will be fun activities, community booths, animals, demonstrations, and opportunities to explore the world of agriculture. HAHS will have Meek Mansion open for self-guided tours to add to the day’s festivities. stop by the free event and see us!
Officially started in 1870, Lone Tree Cemetery is the final resting place for many of the Hayward area’s early pioneers. Visit these notable families and learn more about their contributions to the area. Meet at the Amphitheater.
Join us for a walk on Foothill Blvd and 2nd Street as we discuss some of its interesting landmarks, older buildings, and the changes along our most well-traveled roads. The tour will last at least an hour and a half and will include crossing Foothill Blvd.

Visit the final resting places of the Rodeo King of the West, an Indy 500 winner, the town’s namesake, and many more! This tour will also examine some interesting grave markers and discuss local legends. Meet in front of Mausoleum 2, located behind the cemetery office.
Kintsukuroi is a locally-made motion picture that is a fictional account based on real experiences of Japanese Americans during World War II. After the film screening, the film’s director/writer/producer Kerwin Berk and several of the lead actors will participate in a Q&A discussion session.

Ever wonder why there are so many Urns on top of headstones? Notice all of those pointy obelisks and floral motifs that adorn burial markers? Have you ever seen a headstone resembling a tree trunk or a log? Each communicates a different sentiment, idea, and identity. Start your morning with a guided walk through Lone Tree Cemetery to learn more about cemetery iconography, symbolism, and the cultures that have shaped them.
