How to get involved!
Volunteering or interning can be a great way to involve yourself in the community, learn new things, meet new people or determine if a career in the museum field is right for you. We are more than willing to work around your schedule and interests.
Volunteers help make things happen and there are plenty of tasks for every interest and schedule. Check out our Volunteer Opportunities section below, then fill out our Volunteer Application Form. Or contact our Education Department at (510) 581-0223 or education@haywardareahistory.org.
Internship Opportunities:
Internships are available in the following areas: Collections, Development and Education. We accept undergraduate and graduate students in the following fields: art, art history, business, history, liberal studies, historic preservation, museum studies or public history. We have a variety of projects to offer and are flexible with schedules.

Days of the Dead 2010
HAHS is teaming up again with the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District and the East Bay Arts Collaborative to produce another Days of the Dead celebration in the Hayward area. We need your help! See below for volunteer opportunities for the Days of the Dead exhibit.

Admissions Greeter
Admissions Greeters will provide excellent customer service to Days of the Dead visitors through ticket sales, orientation, and gift shop sales. Learn more (PDF)
Gallery Guide
Gallery Guides will help with greeting visitors, assisting them within the exhibit, and monitoring the exhibit for safety of artwork and guests. Learn more (PDF)
School Tour Assistant
School Tour Assistants for the Days of the Dead exhibit will work with HAHS staff, interns, and other volunteers to lead tours for schoolchildren during the week. Learn more (PDF)
Volunteer Opportunities
Visitor Services
Duties include answering phones, greeting visitors, monitoring exhibit floor, and special projects as needed
Corner Store Clerk
Duties include greeting customers, operating cash register and re-stocking store inventory.
Discovery Guide
Duties include assisting with tours and education programs at the downtown Museum and/or McConaghy House.
Event & Program Support
Duties include assisting the Education Coordinator or Development Director with projects, tasks, and implementation of events, programs and community activities.
Museum Collections
Duties may include cataloging, researching, and organizing of three-dimensional and historic house collections.
Membership/Development
Duties include assisting with special events, grant writing, prospect research, membership and other administrative tasks.
