Emerson's first art lessons were from his mother. She would draw a picture and young Otto would fill it in with color. Eventually he took formal art instruction and in 1890, went to Paris to study at the Julian Academy.

These are some of the only remaining paintings by W. Otto Emerson. Some are of the local landscape, while others reflect Otto's time in Europe.
