What You’ll Find:
- You can explore local history in our permanent exhibit or learn about a variety of topics relating to Hayward area history through our rotating temporary exhibits.
- Our library and archival collections are available for researchers in the Research Center.
- Kids can play and learn about the history of our area in the Curiosity Clubhouse.
- The Corner Store has all sorts of unique gifts and books related to the history of the Hayward area.

On the corner of “C” Street and Main Street in downtown Hayward.
Hours:
Downtown Museum — Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Research Center — By appointment only Monday through Friday and for drop-ins on Saturdays from 11am-4pm
Group and School Tours — By appointment only
The Downtown Museum is CLOSED on Sundays, Mondays and all major holidays.

Directions:
From 880 N: Take the Jackson Street/Route 92 exit towards downtown Hayward. Turn left on Mission Boulevard. Drive 2 blocks and turn right onto C Street. Drive one block and turn right on Main Street. Turn right into the first driveway — our parking lot.
From 880 S: Take the A Street exit towards downtown Hayward. Turn left on A Street. Turn right on Main Street. Just past C Street turn right into the first driveway — our parking lot.
From 580 E: Take the Route 238/Hayward exit. It will become Foothill Boulevard. Turn right on B Street. Turn left on Main Street. Just past C Street turn right into the first driveway — our parking lot.
From 580 W: Take the Strobridge Avenue exit, and turn right on Strobridge Avenue. Turn left at the light (Castro Valley Blvd). After crossing under the freeway ramps, turn left on Foothill Boulevard. Turn right on B Street. Turn left on Main Street and just past C Street, turn right into the first driveway — our parking lot.
Public Transportation:
The Hayward BART Station is just three blocks from us. Exit the station and walk East on B Street for two blocks (through the bus terminals and past city hall). Turn right on Main Street. The museum is one block south, at the corner of Main and C Streets. Many AC Transit lines service downtown Hayward including (but not limited to) #s 77, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 99, 386, 801.
