What you need to know about the Library and Archives:
HAHS encourages research and use of all of its collections. The Library and Archives currently sees several hundred scholars and independent researchers throughout the year. This can make for a very busy and crowded space in the Library. Additionally, we must always remember that we are also preserving information for future generations. To do this, we must ensure proper handling and security of items in our collections. The procedures are as follows:
- Library hours: Wednesday through Saturday 11-4 or by appointment.
- No food or drink is allowed in the Library during research hours.
- Ink pens are not allowed.
- Laptops are allowed. Two outlets are available for use on the South wall.
- Researchers are allowed only in the Library.
- Staff will pull Archival collections and photographs.
- All photocopying is at the discretion of the Volunteer Librarian and Archivist
- Digital cameras and hand held scanners may be used by special arrangement with the Archivist.
There is either a volunteer librarian or the Archivist on duty to assist researchers with accessing the collections during most open hours. The majority of the items stored in the library are easily accessible and researchers are allowed to access that material freely. All information stored in the Archives and images from the photography collection will be pulled by staff at the request of the researcher.
If a Researcher is unable to visit us, research requests may be made in writing either by fax, regular post or email to the Archivist. Requests are generally answered within 3 weeks.
