Group Tours

Bring your group or class to the Downtown Museum for a memorable and educational outing. All tours are led by a museum educator who will ensure a rich experience.

The Hayward Area History Exhibit

Tour our permanent exhibit on local history. This 45 minute tour explores the past through artifacts, images, and period clothing.

Curiosity Clubhouse

This fun room is designed just for children. The Clubhouse is full of costumes, history cubbies, interactive exhibits, art activities, and storybooks. Many teachers find spending time in the Clubhouse a great way to wrap up their visit to the Museum by giving their students an opportunity to explore on their own. The time allotted for this tour is flexible – please call us for more information.

How To Book A Tour

Tours may be booked by phone or by using the form (right). Please call 510-581-0223 for more information or to book a tour. Tours may be booked at any time, but for scheduling purposes we recommend booking a month or two in advance.

Fees:

The School Group tour fee is $1 per student. There is no fee for teachers and chaperones.
The Adult Group tour fee is $20 per each group of 10 people, plus $2 for each additional person.

Walking Tours:

Downtown Hayward

Starting at the Downtown Museum this 45 minute walking tour gives your group a little exercise on a guided stroll through downtown. You’ll learn about places of historical and cultural significance along the way. The fee is $20 per group of 10, plus $2 for each additional person.

Earthquake Tour

Starting at the Downtown Museum and lasting for 45 minutes, your group will follow the path of the Hayward fault through downtown Hayward. You’ll learn about the effects of the 1868 Hayward earthquake, the last significant earthquake on the Hayward fault, and hear more about the science of earthquakes. The fee is $20 per group of 10, plus $2 for each additional person.

McConaghy House

A visit to this 19th century farmhouse opens a window into the past. 90 minutes guided tours illustrate life in the growing communities of the Hayward area. Themes of work, social and leisure life, and technology are addressed using historic images, clothing, touchable artifacts, and period games.

Adult group tours are $4 per adult and $3 per senior (over the age of 65).
