The Meek Estate is an 1869 Victorian Italianate house that was built and lived in by the Meek family. Currently the Hayward Area Historical Society (HAHS) is in the process of restoring the house with the assistance of the architectural firm of Page and Turnbull. For updates on how the restoration is moving along please visit our Projects page. HAHS will be placing objects from its collection into the house that represent the Victorian era through the 1930's following the completion of the restoration phases. In addition, through generous donations from descendants of the Meek family and families that worked for or were friends with them, HAHS has acquired some objects that originally belonged to the Meeks as well. HAHS is very excited to have the opportunity to display these objects in the future. HAHS is currently searching for photographs of the inside of the Meek Estate to aid in the restoration process. We understand that they may be family photographs that you may not want to donate to the society. We do have the ability, with your permission, to scan them so that donating them is not necessary. Any assistance is greatly appreciated! Be sure to visit our Collection Highlights section (to see some of the things that will be displayed in the house). Also visit our Wish List to see what objects we are looking for to expand the collection. To see what's currently being worked on in this collection go to Current Projects. If you are interested in donating an object to HAHS for potential display in the Meek Estate please contact Heather Farquhar at 510-581-0223 or Heather@Haywardareahistory.org. You may also visit our Donation page for further details on how to donate an object.
